Half our group trekked through Circuit 3 of Machu Picchu on the second day. We also ventured up the mountain called Huchuy Picchu (small mountain). It’s the mountain on the left in many iconic photos of the ancient city. The summit was a flat spot about 20 feet across, with lots of rocks.

I can’t believe I actually managed to navigate the irregular stone steps with the occasional drop-off to the side. Okay, so yeah, I stared a lot at stone walls, avoiding the amazing views of this beautiful mountain area. But I made it to the top!!! 8,200 feet above sea level.

In the photo of me facing away from the camera, I’m looking at the ancient city and the mountain Machu Picchu behind it.
